Founded in 2010 by His Eminence, Metropolitan Nikolaos of Mesogaia & Lavreotiki, Galilee operates under the auspices of the Holy Metropolis of Mesogaia & Lavreotiki. The Center’s mission is to relieve the suffering of every person, regardless of nationality, religious background, or financial and insurance status. Its vision is to make high-quality palliative care accessible to every patient in need across Greece, aligning with standards found in many other countries. Galilee offers a collaborative environment focused on compassion, dignity, and holistic support for patients and their families.
Role Description The Medical Doctor at Galilee Palliative Care Centre will provide comprehensive palliative care to adult patients with serious and life-limiting illnesses, focusing on symptom management, pain control, and psychosocial support. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting clinical assessments, developing and reviewing individualized care plans, prescribing and monitoring treatments, and coordinating care with the multidisciplinary team (nurses, social workers, psychologists, and spiritual care providers). The role also involves communicating with patients and families about diagnosis, prognosis, goals of care, and advance care planning, while ensuring respect for patient autonomy and cultural and religious diversity. The Medical Doctor will participate in case conferences, contribute to quality improvement initiatives, and support educational activities related to palliative care. This is a full-time, on-site role located in Spata.
Qualifications
- Medical degree (MD or equivalent) and valid license to practice medicine; specialization in Internal Medicine, Oncology, Anesthesiology, Family Medicine, or related field preferred.
- Formal training or significant experience in palliative care, pain management, and symptom control for patients with cancer, motor neuron disease (ALS), and Parkinson’s disease will be appreciated
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills, with the ability to develop and implement individualized treatment and care plans.
- Excellent communication and counseling skills, including the ability to discuss complex and sensitive issues with patients, families, and caregivers in a clear and compassionate manner.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and to coordinate care across different services and settings.
- Commitment to ethical practice, respect for diverse cultural and religious backgrounds, and adherence to patient-centered principles of care.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage a clinical caseload and maintain accurate medical documentation.
- Fluency in Greek; proficiency in English or other languages
