Preschool Para Educator Substitute

Bitterroot Valley Education Cooperative is seeking substitute Para Educators for our Preschool located in Stevensville. Hours of operation are 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM Monday – Thursday, with a morning session 8:00 AM – Noon and an afternoon session 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Hourly wage is $16.00. The BVEC Preschool is a center-based program for children with disabilities or developmental delays ages three through five years old. The Preschool serves the Cooperative member districts, Florence, Lone Rock, Stevensville and Victor.

• The Applicant must have a High School diploma, GED, or enrollment in a school-based employment program leading to a diploma. Applicant must have demonstrated ability and interest in working with children who have physical, cognitive, speech and language, and emotional delays. Proven physical stamina to meet daily obligations.
• Para will report directly to the Cooperative Director and indirectly to the Preschool Teacher.
• Interested applicants will be added to our substitute list and contacted as needed. This might be on short notice due to an emergency or illness within our staff.
• Applicants must be willing to ride the bus with students in the morning (7:30 departure), mid-day, and afternoon (4:15 return).
• Para must be able to lift children weighing up to 30 pounds as required for safety, getting on and off the bus and personal care needs.
• Para will assist with snack time, bathroom skills, washing, toileting, and dressing.
• Para will help children play cooperatively and appropriately. Guide children in the playground and other special activities.
• Assist at the center time; lead one of the centers and assist students with cutting, painting, and other activities when necessary.
• Include children who are isolated from their peers or adults.
• Assist teacher in general housekeeping tasks.
• Become knowledgeable about data collection and collect data as directed.
• Complete other duties as assigned by the teacher or Co-op Director.
