As a Senior PHP Backend Engineer, you will design and build scalable backend services using Symfony, collaborate with experienced engineers and business stakeholders, and help deliver mission-critical systems serving thousands of users.

Job Description

• Build reusable and extensible code following clean code principles


• Accurately translate user and business needs into functional back-end solutions


• Participate in architecture decisions and technical design discussions

Qualifications

• 4-5 years professional PHP experience


• 2+ years production Symfony (5.x/6.x)


• Laravel knowledge — advantageous


• PHP 8.2+ fluency

Must Have

• Database: MySQL, schema design, migrations, indexing, basic query optimization


• Testing: PHPUnit or Pest — basic Feature + Unit tests


• Quality: Code review participation


• Infrastructure: Docker, Git, conventional commits


• API: REST API design


• Doctrine ORM 2 — entities, repositories, DQL, associations, migrations


• Symfony Messenger — async message handling


• Webhook handling

Nice to Have

• Experience with static analysis tools (PHPStan level 5+; level 8 preferred)


• Code style tooling: Pint, Duster, Rector


• SSO — Socialite + Azure / OIDC


• SSO / OAuth2 — multi-provider (Apple, Google, Microsoft, Facebook)


• Laravel Reverb / WebSockets / Echo broadcasting


• Stripe integration experience


• SAP S/4HANA integration experience


• Salesforce integration experience


• Epsilon invoicing integration experience

Work Location

For at least the 1st month: On-premises at a major Greek enterprise (MPASS client).

Then hybrid:

• 3 days on-site


• 2 days remote
