Position:

Pavimar S.A. is seeking a highly skilled Claims & Insurance Manager to join our Legal Department.

The ideal candidate will be managing the company’s insurance portfolio, handling and leading the resolution of marine claims, and will work together with the Company’s operations, crew and chartering departments and support the Company’s Corporate Counsel.

Key Responsibilities:

• Claims Leadership: Lead the end-to-end management of all marine insurance, cargo, and crew-related claims, and liaise with insurers, brokers, surveyors, and other stakeholders.
• Contractual & Chartering Advisory: Provide counsel on Charterparty clauses and commercial disputes.
• Insurance Strategy: Structure, draft, and oversee the execution of insurance contracts (H&M, P&I, FD&D), maintaining strong relationships with underwriters and brokers.
• Legal Drafting & Reporting: Prepare high-level legal opinions, damage assessments, and formal reports regarding ongoing litigation and loss prevention.
• Operational Risk Management: Maintain comprehensive data and records on all cases to identify systemic risks and provide actionable insights to the Operations and Technical departments.
• Research: Monitor and advise on regulatory and compliance matters affecting maritime operations. Conduct legal research and provide analysis on claims trends, legal developments, and risk areas.
• Broader Support: Provide paralegal and administrative support to the Company’s Corporate Counsel in connection with corporate transactions and the Company’s general legal and regulatory affairs.
  
  

Requirements:

Candidate Profile

• Experience: Minimum 5 years of proven experience within the insurance or legal department of a ship-management company or a leading maritime law firm.
• Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of shipping law, Charterparties, Bills of Lading, handling of commercial disputes, and familiarity with international maritime regulations and conventions.
• Analytical Rigor: Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to navigate complex maritime regulations and multi-jurisdictional disputes.
• Organizational skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize deadlines, and maintain accurate records.
• Communication: Full professional proficiency in English, with the oral and written ability to communicate technical legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
