Application Developer - COBOL

Application Developer - COBOL 

As part of a dynamic Information Technology team, you will participate in the design, development, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the company’s AS400 application for the Life & Health insurance industry. 

Your day-to-day: 

• Requirements Translation: Collaborate with Business Analysts and end users to turn business needs into clear technical specifications. 
• Development & Maintenance: Implement new functionalities and maintain existing systems using Cobol programming language. 
• Testing: Conduct unit and integration testing to ensure high-quality deliverables. 
• Deployment Preparation: Package and document deliverables for deployment into production. 
• User Support: Provide assistance and troubleshooting to end users, ensuring effective and reliable system use. 

What we are looking for:  

• Educational Background: Studies in Computer Science, Software Engineering or another relevant field. 
• Development Experience: Experience in application development, debugging, and enhancement. Familiarity with IBM technologies for AS400 or z/OS or Power-I will be considered a plus. 
• Programming Skills: Exposure to structured programming, Cobol or C-like languages and in batch programming using JCL or CL languages, is welcome. 
• Database Skills: Knowledge of relational database concepts, data modeling, and practical experience writing SQL queries for data retrieval and manipulation, would be beneficial. 
• Integration Knowledge: Familiarity with SOAP and RESTful services. 
• Reporting Abilities: Ability to design and develop reports using SQL or reporting tools. 
• Delivery Focus: Results-oriented with strong time management skills. 
• Problem-Solving Mindset: Strong analytical and creative approach to resolving issues. 
• Self-Motivation: Continuous learning mindset and ability to manage multiple priorities.
