Job Description

In accordance with established policies, procedures and standards, is assisting on the day-to-day activities of the department in promoting the consistent and proper application of international marine regulations, fulfilling IACS obligations and providing effective liaison with flag Administrations. Through broader and more technically challenging work assignments, incumbent will develop a thorough understanding of policies, methods and procedures.

What You Will Do:

  • Assist in development, dissemination and interpretation of international marine regulations, as directed, to promote the consistent and proper application of regulations.
  • Provide effective liaison with flag Administrations.
  • Provide technical support to flag Administrations.
  • Evaluate and coordinate the dissemination of instructions received from Administrations.
  • Represent ABS at policy meetings called by flag Administrations.
  • Maintain file and listing of Delegation of Authorizations to perform statutory work on behalf of Administrations.
  • Assist in the development of Process Instructions and in Interpretation/Instructions.
  • Monitor issues and regulations, relative to safety issues and protection of the environment, that are undergoing development internationally.
  • Assist in fulfilling IACS obligations and in providing technical coordination to IACS tasks, as directed.
  • Coordinate and assist in the development of responses concerning IACS policy issues.
  • Assist in providing information to maintain client awareness of developing issues and regulations.

What You Will Need:

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • A broad knowledge of marine engineering concepts and basic terminology, particularly as addressed by international conventions and codes.
  • Knowledge and operation of personal computer, word processing. Knowledge on general-purpose programming language (e.g. Python) or data base and cloud computing systems will be positively considered.
  • Ability to communicate well, orally and in writing, and to reorganize and present information internally and externally in a professional manner.
  • Good command of the English language.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • A general knowledge of the process by which international maritime regulations are promulgated.
  • The ability to identify, analyze and propose solutions to problems (i.e., the competence to demonstrate complex problem-solving skills).
