The Goal

As the Accounting Manager at OpenBet you will help oversee our global accounting operations.

This is a newly created role and you will be responsible for managing the record-to-report activities, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and alignment with company goals. You will have a strong background in accounting processes, financial reporting, and team management, with a proven ability to drive operational efficiency and continuous improvement.

As Accounting Manager, you will lead an accounting team based in Athens, overseeing monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, manage balance sheet reconciliation, and ensure proper internal controls are in place. You will collaborate closely with the OpenBet finance team based in London to ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting. The role requires a hands-on approach, strong leadership skills, and the ability to navigate the accounting systems.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Help to build, oversee and manage the record-to-report accounting process for the company, ensuring timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities.
• Coordinate with finance teams based in London and Athens to ensure proper recording and reporting of transactions.
• Prepare and review general ledger journal entries and adjustments.
• Manage the reconciliation process for balance sheet accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Work closely with the Financial Controller to support the preparation of consolidated financial statements in compliance with US GAAP, IFRS or local accounting standards.
• Work closely with the Financial Controller to support the preparation of VAT/GST returns in compliance with local requirements.
• Ensure that internal controls and SOX compliance requirements are met throughout the record-to-report accounting process.
• Assist with external audits, providing documentation and resolving any issues raised by auditors.
• Prepare and review month-end reporting packages, highlighting key financial performance metrics and variances.
• Participate in the continuous improvement of financial reporting processes, identifying opportunities for automation and efficiency.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff and ensure ongoing professional development.
• Support ad-hoc financial analysis and projects as required by the Financial Controller or senior management.
  
  

The Player

What You’ll Bring

• Relevant accounting qualification (e.g. ACA / CIMA/ ACCA or equivalent).
• Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is essential.
• 5+ years of experience in record-to-report or general accounting, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
• In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and audit processes.
• Strong understanding of accounting processes, internal controls, and month-end closing procedures
• Proficiency in accounting software (experience with Microsoft Dynamics would be an advantage) and Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with implementing automation leveraging RPA / AI tools is preferred
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  
  

This position is hybrid 3 days a week in the office. Days in the office are flexible.
