What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a key member for our governance and compliance team to ensure we provide a compliant service for the EU MED, UK MER, and similar equipment schemes. In this role, you will ensure that we meet our responsibilities as an accredited organization through efficient and effective service delivery.
This position offers a unique opportunity to enhance your expertise and grow into a world-leading technical authority in the field. You will act as the ultimate Technical Authority for the Schemes, offering guidance to colleagues and clients alike. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with our delivery, IT, and product development teams to ensure we have the best tools and processes in place to deliver value to both our clients and the organization.
Additionally, you will represent LR at senior levels across the industry, engaging with working groups, conferences, and regulatory bodies.

The role
- Serve as the ultimate decision-maker for scheme certification, acting as the Technical Subject Matter Expert and escalation point for technical issues.
- Define and establish methods of delegation and technical competency requirements relevant to the scheme, delegating technical authority to service delivery personnel as needed for specific activities.
- Provide technical management of effective assurance processes, ensuring compliance with scheme requirements while maintaining efficient and consistent service delivery.
- Oversee and govern certification processes, including:
- Supporting internal and external audits and reviews.
- Managing the identification and elimination of conflicts of interest.
- Monitoring the quality and integrity of work performed under authorizations.
- Ensure the effectiveness of verification scheme procedures, tools, and processes by:
- Developing certification activities and requirements.
- Reviewing and evaluating the scheme’s overall effectiveness.
- Monitoring and communicating changes to certification schemes, both internal and external.
- Developing training requirements and overseeing the technical content of training materials.
- Represent LR externally to accreditation committees and industry associations, incorporating input from regulatory affairs regarding future legislation and ensuring updates to existing processes and tools.
- Commit to Continuous Professional Development, maintaining a high level of knowledge and discipline in relevant areas.
- Conduct all activities in accordance with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.
- A degree (or equivalent qualification) from a recognized tertiary institution in naval architecture, engineering, or physical science (minimum two-year program), or qualifications from a marine or nautical institution with relevant sea-going experience.
- In-depth knowledge of marine propulsion systems, including diesel engines, turbines, and electrical power generation.
- Extensive experience and expertise in regulations, standards, surveys, and assurance methods related to Marine Equipment certification and compliance.
- Proven knowledge and experience in adhering to EU and UK marine equipment regulations.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex findings to both technical and non-technical audiences effectively.
- Membership in a relevant professional institution.
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
